Browser-only AI-first vector editor "Illustmaker" officially launched — 38 MCP-native tools let AI agents drive the canvas directly
ASI Inc. (HQ: Setagaya, Tokyo; CEO: Yusuke Saiki) has officially launched Illustmaker, an AI-first vector graphics editor that runs entirely in the browser, no installation required (https://asi.co.jp/illustmaker/).
With native MCP (Model Context Protocol) support, AI agents like Claude Desktop / Cursor / Cline can directly edit via 38 MCP tools. You can now generate and edit logos, illustrations, diagrams, and social-media banners through natural-language instructions alone — no design expertise required.
Making "AI agents that draw" the default
Large language models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini — and the AI agents that run on top of them (Claude Desktop / Cursor / Cline) — are increasingly capable colleagues who write code, aggregate data, and execute tasks. But vector drawing has long been a frontier they couldn't cross.
Existing vector editors (Adobe Illustrator, Figma) are designed around human hand-operation. Their proprietary formats, limited APIs, and GUI-bound workflows make it nearly impossible for agents to drive them.
Illustmaker tackles this head-on as a browser-only vector tool redesigned from the ground up assuming AI agents are first-class users.
Key features
1. Browser-only — no installation, no registration
Illustmaker is pure JavaScript running in the browser. No login, no installation, no paywall. Open the URL and start using every feature instantly. Lightweight enough for Chromebooks, work-issued PCs, and low-spec devices — a fundamentally different entry experience from heavyweight apps like Illustrator.
2. 38 MCP tools — direct editing from AI agents
Just run npx -y @illustmaker/mcp in your AI client config and Claude Desktop / Cursor / Cline can drive Illustmaker. 38 MCP tools cover shape adds, color, text, grouping, alignment, and SVG/PNG/PDF export. Instructions like "put a blue circle in the center" or "make it slightly rounder" just work.
3. Light/dark themes
The editor supports both light and dark themes, and your choice is saved to the browser. Comfortable for long-form work, late-night sessions, and dark-room environments.
4. SVG / PNG / PDF export
Export to SVG (vector), PNG (raster), or PDF (print-ready). Commercial use is fine and no credit is required. Use it for social banners, presentations, logos, diagrams, and print materials alike.
5. Multilingual (Japanese / English)
The landing page, editor, manual, and MCP docs all have English versions — built from the ground up with overseas AI engineers and designers in mind.
6. Hardened security — API key auth, rate limits, SSRF protection
External API access is protected with API keys (X-API-Key: im_xxx). Keys are stored as SHA-256 hashes. Rate limits apply (anon 30 / Free 100 / Pro 600 req/min), and illust_import_from_url refuses internal IPs via SSRF protection. Working data is auto-deleted after 7 days.
Who it's for
- AI agent developers who want to give their agent "the ability to draw."
- Marketers and social-media managers who churn out banners and thumbnails daily and want to do it in natural language.
- Startups and sole proprietors who want logos and diagrams without paying Illustrator's monthly fee.
- Educators and instructors who want to outsource course materials and diagrams to AI.
- Engineers who want to treat diagrams as code (SVG is text).
